Brasilia, Earthrounders meeting, Third Day
We had a city tour today and learned all about Brasilia’s 50 year history. How its president J. Kubitschek created this city with architects L. Costa and O. Niemeyer who developed a fascinating city structure to streamline government, culture and habitation spaces. From above it looks like a “concrete city” however, on ground level there are lots of green spaces and air flow as all the structures are on stilts (instead of having a ground floor) to allow the breeze to flow under all buildings. The architecture has developed over the past 50 years, mainly based on newer building materials. See the JK Memorial and church pictures above.
During the afternoon the Antanov flew back into the airfield where we had enjoyed dinner two days earlier. You get a good view of the 10% grade of this short grass strip as the Antanov lands. See pictures above.
