Brasilia, Earthrounders meeting, Second Day
What a “surprise” dinner last evening. We went back to the small airport where we landed with Gerard. Dinner was in one of the local hangars, see picture. This airport was originally started by Nelson Piquet, the race car driver. He and his brother have several planes and hangars here. They are as passionate about flying as any people we have met.
Today we went to a local aero-club airport. It is a small airport with over 100 small general aviation planes, very close to Brasilia and the main international airport. These planes have a corridor around the area and below the Brasilia airspace. Many of us were given rides in the local planes including a number of RVs and some local Brasilian planes. Wayne and I each took ride with pilot, Mamede, in his Brasilian light sport Paradise airplane, PU-AOB. We flew around the area, over our hotel and over the president’s palace (can you imagine that). It gave us a magnificent view of the city. There is a video of coming in to land, below.
Afterwards, we had a local lunch, churrasco, which is their version of a BBQ. Just look at the picture above with all that meat, they really mean BBQ. It was a wonderful exchange between pilots.
